Survey Results

Peoples Choice

We wanted to create a hands free device which aids people in their everyday lives. We conducted a survey in hopes to find out what we can implement to our designs to capture the perfect device for the consumers needs. Here are our results.

DAILY ASPECTS

We targeted people who find themselves carrying heavy items. When creating a design for our creation, we wanted it's main purpose to help people to carry items to and from without lifting a finger. With 112 responses, we found that 102 people use carry-ons such as backpacks, tote bags, or purses for more than 5 days in a whole week. With this information, we knew that a creation which aided people with carrying certain items was relevant to multiple lives across communities, whether it be from students, office workers, or even shoppers.

Connectivity

When creating some features, a must have that we wanted to implement was hands free GPS tracking. Our first idea was to create a companion app in which you pair the device with the bag and would have access to all the bag's potential. With the companion app, the bag would follow the handheld device registered with the bag. First, we had an idea that the bag would connect to the phone via Wi-Fi or in some cases Bluetooth connectivity. 99.1% of 112 responded that they had Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection with their phone, which was a huge thumbs up for the idea.

Since we were able to find out that people had the connection of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on their handheld device, it brought us a step closer to GPS tracking for the hands free bag. We began to ask if people were comfortable having their GPS tracked by just the bag, so the bag would always find a way to follow the user via the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection. Unfortunately, 59.8% of 112 responses answered no, meaning that the companion app would not be possible due to the fear of their locations being tracked.

Our solution

We decided to create a separate device which would contain a GPS tracker already paired with the bag when it is purchased. With this, the user would just have to carry the handheld device with them, and the bag will automatically follow you. With this, we hope consumers will feel safe using the GPS feature, since the tracking would only be shared between the users remote, and their bag. As for the companion app, we will be containing information for users to use, such as battery percentage of the bag, or even controlling the portable speakers on the bag itself.

Portable charging

We wanted to add additional features that would be beneficial to the user. Being in the 21st century, almost every person has their own cellphone, tablet, or handheld device. We had the idea to implement a portable charger, and asked in a survey if people found themselves losing battery in a scale of always to never, and more than 50% of 112 responses found their phones losing power "sometimes" to "always". With this information, we decided to implement a portable charger for those who are constantly on their devices.

Bluetooth speakers

Another additional feature we wanted to add was portable speakers. In hope of making this vision possible, we asked 112 people on our survey if they owned bluetooth speakers and if they enjoyed listening to music via bluetooth speakers. 84.8% of the responses said that they enjoyed listening to music on speakers, while 17.9% of the responses answered that they did not own their own bluetooth speakers. With this being unveiled, we wanted to add portable speakers on the device built in, so you would need to think twice about accidentally leaving your speakers at home, now its on the go!
